KI National Weekend 2006

The 2006 KI National Weekend was held November 3 - 5 in Bad Axe, Michigan.

This Event Featured 5 Grand Masters:

Senior Grand Master Dale Drouillard ( 1st American to Receive a Black Belt in Tang Soo Do, 1957 Korea )

Grand Master Willie Adams - Isshinryu

Grand Master Greg Boliard - Tang Soo Do

Grand Master Algene Caraulia Senior - Kajukenpo

Grand Master David J. Praim - Tang Soo Do.

The weekend started off with the Black Belt Testing and reception on Friday Night. Saturday began with a stick fighting seminar by Master Robb Hogan (6th Dan) and the National Tournament Event Started at 9:30 AM. The Black Belt Forms Division had over 30 competitors, this was a great event to watch.

After the tournament everyone took a break and put on their formal wear for the Awards Banquet.

Sunday morning closed out the weekend with the traditional Farewell Breakfast and everyone parted ways until the next event.

My personal highlights for the weekend included:

Being in Mr. Kowalski & Mr. Stevers 3rd Dan Testing Friday night

Attending the stick seminar by Master Hogan

Fighting on "Team A" during the Traditional Black Belt Team fights

Competing with over 30 black belts in forms & fighting divisons

Speaking with each of the Grand Masters during the Weekend

A special thanks to Mr. Simon, Ms. Minier and Mr. Robb for attending the weekend as well. I joked with Mr. Robb about remembering the KI Banquet in 1983 when Chuck Norris was the guest of honor and Mr. Robb presented me with my Award.

Grand Master Dale Drouilard

I had the opportunity to meet Grand Master Drouilard at the 2nd International Tang Soo ( Soo Bak ) Do Federation Seminar held July 22, 2006 in Detroit, Michigan.

The event featured Grandmaster Kang Uk Lee, Grand Master Dale Drouilard and Grand Master Young Ok Kim

To view or order images taken by the photographer of this event, visit www.soo.photoreflect.com and select the Kang Uk Lee photos.

This was a wonderful seminar and it was really great to be with so many people that have dedicated their life to the martial arts. I was able to learn two new forms from the Chil Song Series and I plan to attend the next event.

I will be teaching red belts and above the first form in our advanced classes during 2007... I'll see you there.
