Joint Training Session!

A Joint training session between Central Michigan Karate and Michigan State University Karate Club will take place tonight from 6:00 - 8:00 PM in East Lansing.  Don't miss this opportunity to learn new skills and train with others.

Results From WMKC - Oct 20th

Once again Fabiano's Karate hosted a great martial arts that offered exciting competition for all ages and skill levels.  The event took place on October 20, 2012 at the Holland Civic Center located at 150 West 8th Street in Holland Michigan. 

I highly recommend this event to others!  (Great Job!)

Two members of the Central Michigan Karate Club were on hand to participate in the event Douglas Resseguie and Jaxon Sawyer. 

This was the first karate tournament for Jaxon who is presently a yellow belt in the Edmore Karate Class.  Jaxon entered the Forms competition and performed Geicho Hyung Il Bu a form created in 1947 by Grand Master Hwang Kee.  The division Jaxon competed in was by far the largest of the days event.  His scores showed that he performed very well and he earned a participation medal for his efforts.  Keep up the good work Jaxon!

Douglas Resseguie participated in Black Belt Forms Division and was the first competitor to take the floor.  He performed a form required for 3rd Degree Black Belt called Kong Son Kun which is approximately 300 years old and was originated in South China.  There was a very high level of competition between the other Black Belts and soon it was clear there was a 3 way tie.  The standard guidelines for advanced forms competition requires a different form in the event of a tie.  Douglas performed Bassai for his 2nd form, which also originated in South China.  Overall, Douglas placed 4th in the Black Belt Forms competition.

Douglas also participated in Senior Black Belt fighting to take 4th place after winning his first fight, losing his 2nd match to Brian Lentz (tournament grand champion) and losing a 3rd match which tied 5 to 5 forcing an extended time period "Sudden Death Match".  Overall each fight in the Black Belt Division offered high caliber fighters with lots of fast paced action.

Edmore Fall Karate Session Starts Tonight

CMU Class Starting TONIGHT @ 9:00 pm

The Karate Training for Fall 2012 at Central Michigan University "KICKS OFF" tonight from 9:00 pm until 10:30 pm at Rose Center Room 126.  This semester should be exciting as the club will be attending several tournaments as well as other events.

We are also in the process of planning a Joint Training Session with the Michigan State University Karate Club.

MAINstage 2012 will take place on Sunday August 26th beginning at 3:00 PM and ending at 6pm. 

MAINstage takes place in parking lot 62 east, which is located between the Rose ponds and Kelly/Shorts Football Stadium. Mobile Zip Line, inflatables, novelties, games, and live music adorn this grassy area and make this an enjoyable event for all.

 Each year thousands of CMU students attend the event. This is a tremendous opportunity for both students and the Mount Pleasant community to get to know each other. In addition, it's a great way for all students to "connect" to all the great organizations and offices that CMU has to offer.

CMK Summer Workout Schedule

The summer training schedule and location for Central Michigan Karate Club is as follows:

WORKOUT TIMES:
Monday & Wednesday 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

LOCATION: 
Isabella Township Park in Rosebush, MI

UNIFORM:
The standard karate uniform (Gi) or a modified version of uniform pants, belt and t-shirt.

FOOTWEAR: 
This will be an outdoor pavilion with a concrete floor, so plan to have some footwear available.
If possible use aqua shoe or water shoe style that slips on quickly and does not prevent foot movement while still providing good contact with the floor.

CMK Club Test Feedback

On Saturday April 28, Central Michigan Karate Club held the 2012 Spring Karate Testing at Mid Michigan Community College in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.

The event had a total of ten karate students testing at various rank levels.  The senior ranking colored belt was Mr. Adam Gross who assisted in calling the commands for the 8th gup testing candidates.  The testing board consisted of five black belts: D. Resseguie, C. Simon, C. Bowden, R. Dorman and C. Hang.

Overall, the testing process demonstrated the students hard work during the semester and the dedication of each instructor.  The individual test results will be released to students this week during class by their instructor.

After the testing process was completed, Mr. Chuck Bowden helped to facilitate and narrate a brief training exercise and demonstration prepared for the students.  First, Mr. Cia Hang distributed a new pamphlet on proper breaking techniques.  He then gave a 5 minute training session on the material and completed the process by demonstrating a unique board break.  The break he performed was a front punch starting only 3 inches away from the board surface.

After the training on breaking, Mr. Bowden discussed forms and gave some insight on looking at a form from different rank levels.  Then he introduced Mr. Chad Simon who performed Bassai and Sa Woo Han Nan.  The final presentation was by Mr. Douglas Resseguie who performed Nai Ahn Chi Iron Horse (katas 1 - 3) and Chil Sung Sam Ro.

Club Testing April 28th

Central Michigan Karate Club will be hosting the 2102 Spring Testing on Saturday April 28th.  The test will be located at the Mid Michigan Community College Pickard Campus in room 112.  Doors will open at 9:00 am and the testing will begin at 10:00 am.
