The pathway to becoming a Black Belt is also much more than just physical skill it encompasses the Mind, Body & Spirit. The process takes many years and after all the work has been completed the student MUST be recommended by their instructor & peers.

Certificate Text As Follows:
It is with great honor that the Tung Gin Association Awards Mr. Chad Simon the rank of 1st Degree Black Belt. He shall hereby be honored from this day forward and granted the privileges and responsibilities of this rank. This degree is presented for outstanding achievement in the martial arts and is recognized throughout the world. Be it known that this declaration of accomplishment is granted for excellence in physical skills, mental ability, loyalty and dedication to the art of Tang Soo Do. This individual has achieved the highest goals of the martial arts: Transcendence and Unity.

Given this 21st day of April 2007 and certified by the promotion board of the Tung Gin Association.

About Mr. Simon: he began the study of the martial arts at the Harrison Dance Center in the early 1990’s under the instruction of Douglas Resseguie. Since then he has distinguished himself in many ways and he is best described by the Samuri Maxim – “A man who has attained mastery of an art reveals it in his every action.” He is a health care professional, military veteran, and martial arts instructor. His lifetime contributions to the people of Central Michigan and his local community are far more than just his effort spent working with the karate club.

Western Michigan Karate Championship!
Finding your inner self during competition

March 24, 2007 — Eighteen members of the Central Michigan Karate club attended the Western Michigan Karate Championship held at the Holland Civic Center in beautiful downtown Holland Michigan. The largest event of the 2007 Karate season to date, it offered a diverse field of competitors from Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Ohio. Learning from the “process of competition” is another way martial artists can improve their skills – under pressure you must learn to calm your mind and focus to succeed. Martial Arts Skills Seminar!

Martial Arts Skills Seminar!
The 2nd Annual Martial Arts Seminar was a Success!

February 17, 2007 — Students from across Mid Michigan filled the Finch Gymnasium on the Campus of Central Michigan University to participate in the 2nd Annual Martial Arts Skills Seminar hosted by Central Michigan Karate Club. The seminar provided a focused workshop on specific aspects of martial arts training. The categories for the day were: Fighting, Forms, Self-Defense, One Steps and Breaking. The workshop allowed students to work in small groups with Black Belts to fine tune their martial arts skills and learn advanced concepts that are sometimes not available in their classroom.

The day was full of excitement to the very end, which concluded with a Power Breaking Demonstration. Power breaks demonstrate the mental and physical aspects of martial arts training. Mr. Chad Simon demonstrated a powerful hand technique breaking 8 inches of concrete and Mr. Douglas Resseguie demonstrated a powerful Axe Kick smashing 14 inches of concrete.

A special thanks to Central Michigan University and to all the key individuals who helped plan and run the event. The events success was clearly seen in the smiles on student’s faces.

Students that attended represented the following schools:
CMU Karate Club – Central Michigan University
MMCC Karate Club - Mid Michigan Community College
Harrison Karate Club – Harrison Dance & Creativity Center
Weidman Karate Club – Weidman Elementary School
Mesick Karate Club – Mesick School System

Karate Competition Heats Up!
Central Michigan Karate Tournament Results

February 10, 2007 — Members of Central Michigan Karate kicked off the 2007 Tournament Circuit with two events this month. The first was held in Cleveland Ohio on February 3rd and then Grand Rapids on February 10th. Karate Tournaments offer students various types of competition to choose from including: Fighting, Forms, Weapons and Breaking. When most people think of Karate they think of Fighting, however there are other types of competition. Forms competition is similar to Ice Skating or Gymnastics where students must follow a precise technical program and will be judged on their presentation, power, technique, timing and balance. Weapons competition adds another level of difficulty by challenging the martial artist to use traditional weapons in the program. The final form of competition is breaking of materials such as ice, boards or bricks. If you’ve never experienced a Martial Arts Tournament – don’t miss out on the action.
